We continue our series on the awakening in Iran with Sarvnaz Alambeigi's film "1001 Nights Apart" (2022). As a result of the Islamic Revolution, a ban on dancing was enacted in Iran. "1001 Nights Apart" follows a group of young people in Tehran who, undeterred, secretly teach themselves to dance and develop choreographies on topics that literally move them: sexuality, feminism, faith and society. In addition, the film goes in search of former dancers of the old National Ballet who now live in exile. "1001 Nights Apart" traces the desire for freedom of a young generation and an almost forgotten tradition of Iran.
After the film we invite you to a discussion with the director Sarvnaz Alambeigi.
