The culture of drinking and offering tea is an inseparable part of the lifestyle of Arab countries. It shows respect and cordiality to a guest. The ritual of drinking tea or coffee together serves as a symbol to take away the fear of the "foreigner", to strengthen tolerance and community between cultures and generations. We want to cultivate and practice this ritual together, accompanied by artists from the region.

Our Café Wake Cup is back!

This afternoon at Café Wake Cup, we would like to present something special: we will play music and you will sing! We want to play Arabic music that connects, touches and invites you to join in. You are warmly invited to sing with us, share your thoughts and be part of this moment. This afternoon is more than just music, it is a shared experience that we will create together with you.

We will be showing Braveheart by Collective Malouba afterwards:

A young woman disappears. There is no trace of her, no sign. It is as if she never existed. Only a young man, once her partner, could perhaps help shed light on the matter. He is interrogated, pressured, and forced to speak, but they are unable to convict him. Nevertheless, he is convicted, punished, and disappears.

The story is told by an author who wants to write a play about the right of individuals to give up hope. In the course of his work, he realizes that his defense of this right is essentially a defense of the right to use violence against others, against oneself, or against a system that threatens individuals with disappearance.

Braveheart is a play about the absence of political effectiveness and a feeling of powerlessness that can threaten entire societies. At the heart of the play, however, is the question: How can one regain hope when the world takes one's breath away?

In Arabic with German surtitles.
