What of us remains in the world when we are no longer here? Can we even live forever in the privatized metaverse? Victoria Halper & Kai Krösche (DARUM) explore death, loneliness, and the lasting traces that humans leave behind in their artistic work. Drawing on the themes of their hyperlink installation "404-TOTLINK," commissioned by the Impulse Festival in 2021, the artist duo takes a glimpse into a possible and perhaps not-too-distant future in "[EOL].End of Life," transporting the audience to the virtual ruins of a decommissioned metaverse: Using virtual reality headsets, visitors become outsourced freelancers for the fictional trillion-dollar corporation "Imaginary Reality Landscapes," assuming the role of those who determine which digital legacies will have a place in the richly detailed parallel realities of tomorrow and which will be permanently deleted. But this also requires decisions about the irretrievable erasure of human traces that can still be found in three-dimensional worlds... With their intense and immersive performance experience "[EOL].End of Life," which premiered at brut Wien, Victoria Halper & Kai Krösche (DARUM) have been invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in May of this year and will be guests at Impulse in Mülheim an der Ruhr and Düsseldorf shortly thereafter.
