Our bodies are political!' The dancer Mani Obeya has experienced this first hand. Obeya was born in Nigeria and grew up in East London. There he made a career as a black ballet dancer. His life story confronts us with the structural racism of our Western society and the structural racism in dance.
Obeya gives us a glimpse into his life, beginning at a young age as a tap dancer, followed by his career as a ballet dancer, and tells us about his struggles and confrontations along the way. Along the way, he presents ballet and tap numbers with incredible ease, precision and the manner of a born entertainer.
The impressive as well as evocative solo is the result of a dialogue process between Mani Obeya and Willi Dorner.
