With the terrorist attack on 7 October 2023, Hamas committed the most serious attack against Jewish life since the Shoah. Since the attack, anti-Semitic incidents have also become more frequent in Germany. The Ringlokschuppen, the Theater an der Ruhr, the Makroscope and the KGI theatre collective, all very different places and groups in the Mülheim cultural scene, are addressing this issue and inviting you to lectures and discussions.
We invite the people of Mülheim to enter into dialogue with us and the respective guests.
background noise A series by KGI
Anti-Semitism in art and culture is not an isolated phenomenon, but part of an anti-Semitic background noise in society as a whole, which erupts time and again when specific events occur. The incidents at documenta fifteen are just one example of this. Against the backdrop of a changing culture of remembrance and increasing anti-Semitic hostility, the KGI group has initiated a series of events. The persistent anti-Semitism in art, culture and society will be examined from a Jewish perspective.
Between October 2023 and October 2024, Israeli and diasporic Jewish playwrights and writers will continuously write new literary texts about a present characterized by uncertainty and pain. Together with the Institute for New Social Sculpture, KGI invites you to a reading that focuses on the resulting texts by the German-Israeli author Avishai Milstein. The event will be hosted by the Theater an der Ruhr. This will be followed by a joint discussion with the author
To participate in these events, please register in advance by sending an email to anmeldung@kgi-kollektiv.com Admission is free.
