The Italian collective Anagoor is one of Theater an der Ruhr's ongoing artistic collaborators. Their visually powerful, highly musical and internationally acclaimed works have been guests at Theater an der Ruhr several times. Following "Socrates the Survivor" and "Germania," "Vom Licht" is her third production at Theater an der Ruhr. Anagoor is, among other things, winner of the Silver Lion at the 46th Venice International Theatre Biennale.
Adam and Manda grow up with their foster parents Valentin and Norea on a self-sufficient farm. They do not attend public school, but are taught by their parents at home. They pass on to their children their religious conviction that all matter is evil and wrong, that the world is a bad place, and that only the return home to a dematerialized kingdom of light can be the goal of their existence. Anselm Neft's novel "Vom Licht" is a literary challenge that lingers long. As always, the encounter with literary material becomes an opportunity for Anagoor to touch some of the West's most sensitive nerves. Starting with a difficult family constellation, a story of isolation and seclusion from the world set in the mountains of Austria, "Vom Licht" unexpectedly evolves into a radical reflection on the concept of family, parenthood and education.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Realized with funds from the THEATERPREIS DES BUNDES.
