Quick Info
Dinner is ready! And there’s enough for everyone! Starter, main course, dessert – just as it should be. But is that really the case? Do we have enough food for everyone? The play "Tasting" whets your appetite for more: more questions, more sounds, more shared experiences. What sounds are made in the kitchen when chopping, frying, and tasting? How can you tell when something tastes really good? Who do you prefer to share your food with – your friend in the schoolyard, or do you follow a strict “I don’t share my food” policy? Where does food actually come from before it ends up on your plate? Food is more than just something to fill your stomach. It is an encounter, a ritual, culture, identity, history, and much more. With “Tasting,” Ruhrfestspiele bring the kitchen to the stage. In Stefan Ebner’s production for the Junges Nationaltheater Mannheim, there is something wonderfully anarchic and unconventional about it. Sounds, smells, and stage action merge into a sensory experience. A school class was also involved in the rehearsals for the play, trying out and cooking a variety of recipes together. Everyone agreed that you shouldn’t play with food. "Tasting" asks: Why not?
