Imagine that from one day to the next you become superheroes: no longer invisible, but world-famous; not longer nobodies, but stars. Euphoric, you set out to do good in the world. You are admired and loved for your strength and courage. But what if fame goes to your head? What if your strength suddenly turns against others? Is there any going back to how you were before? “HEROES” is about the desire to be someone else – and to be seen and recognized in this new form. Director Michai Geyzen has created a ludicrous play for the Belgian theater group Laika: with its ironic, trashy comic book visuals, “HEROES” questions our indiscriminate admiration of modern heroes and icons. After all, what really matters when glitz and glamour begin to fade?
