In Rima Kamel , director Rabih Mroué and Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich follow in the footsteps of her early career as a singing children's star, celebrated at the age of nine under the name "Rima Kamel" for her "voice of the century".
Mroué negotiates the practice of instrumentalising child stars in the context of a politically tense situation for propaganda purposes and the emancipation of adult Rima from her foreign career. Closely linked to the history of Lebanon between modernity and tradition, the adult Rima turns on stage to her childlike self to uncover the burdens of the past that extend to the present.
