Quick Info
Love conquers all
In a deteriorating society, gangs of violent youths are terrorising the cities. Interpersonal relationships are banned. Alienation and isolation are enforced by law. A young couple resists and creates a utopia of their own – people are stronger than any repressive regime. Because they love each other, they can prevail. David Bowie dreamed of writing musicals. With Lazarus, he realized that dream just weeks before his death in January 2016. Now Ivo Van Hove, whom Bowie had entrusted with directing Lazarus, creates a new piece of music theatre from the complete works of the musical genius. Rebel Rebel, named after one of David Bowie’s most famous songs, is a commentary on the present, which appears ever more dystopic. Henry Hey, Bowie’s longtime collaborator, assumes the musical direction. The multi-award-winning choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui takes on the challenge of translating violence, resistance and love into dance.
