Vorhang!

Quick Info

From chaos to silence with the music of Erik Satie and John Cage

At the premiere of Erik Satie’s scandalous ballet Parade anti-art protestors stormed the stage shouting “Curtain!” to stop the show. But it wasn’t just a piece of fabric that adorned the stage – it was a work of art by Pablo Picasso. Now this backdrop is becoming the setting for a new interdisciplinary experience: after Les Apaches ! put the “rave” into “Ravel” at the last Ruhrtriennale, Vorhang! evolves from the absurd to the sublime, combining music, performance, movement and minimalism. The creative chaos of contrarian Satie is absorbed into the contemplative silence of his pupil in spirit John Cage.

Produced by Nouvelle Société des Apaches Partners: Théâtre du Châtelet, ECAM, Conservatoire du Kremlin Bicêtre. The Ensemble Les Apaches receives funding from the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and support for the development of artistic teams from the Val-de-Marne (94) Departmental Council. This project has the support of Sacem, Spedidam, Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations and Institut Français.
