The Transorient Orchestra brings the transcultural soundtrack of the Ruhr Metropolis to life. The current line-up features musicians with cultural roots in Germany, Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Tunisia.
A dozen virtuoso soloists form a colourful and dazzling ensemble. Santur, oud, nay and darbuka engage in creative dialogue with big band brass, guitar, bass, violin and drums, enhanced by Arabic and Turkish vocals.
The Transorient Orchestra blends the melodies and rhythms of the Orient with Western harmonies and jazzy improvisation to create diverse and exciting combinations. Orient and Occident in a unique musical synthesis – intellectually inspiring and emotionally touching.
Since 2003, the Transorient Orchestra, conducted by Andreas Heuser, has been enriching the music scene in the Ruhr area and far beyond. The Transorient Orchestra is the winner of the 2017 WDR Jazz Prize in the category of music cultures.
